Melbourne, Australia (PRWEB) June 29, 2013

The First Aid Training and Certification industry in Australia has benefited from mostly positive conditions over the past five years. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Ryan Lin, while many downstream markets have been affected by turbulent conditions, the industry has held firm. The diversity of the industry’s client base has allowed it a degree of protection against downstream fluctuations, as have regulatory requirements imposed by the Federal Government. Industry revenue is expected to grow at an annualised 1.7% over the five years through 2012-13, to total $ 361.8 million. The Australian economy is in the midst of an upturn, with business and consumer confidence recovering. A scare from the forecasted impending collapse of the burgeoning resource sector has lessened as resource prices return to parity. As a result, the industry continues to strengthen.

Revenue growth has been stronger in the past few years due to the recovery of downstream industries since the global financial crisis. Niche category first aid training has also gained momentum, especially as the recovery in downstream markets is accompanied by growth in population and total expenditure on health, says Lin. The First Aid Training and Certification industry has a medium level of concentration, with three major players: St John Ambulance Australia Inc, Australian Red Cross Society and Royal Life Saving Society – Australia.

Over the coming five years, the industry will begin to get a taste of growth pressures from a range of sources including competition and safer working conditions. Competitive pressures from other delivery methods, including online courses and educational institutions, will continue to build a stronger front against industry establishments. The industry will fight back with increased penetration rates in business in-house training. IBISWorld expects that competitive pressures will mostly affect the consumer market segment, with the increased ease of access to the likes of internet first aid trainers and online courses more of an attraction to individual consumers.
